Things Are Picking Back Up

Wowza - it's been over 220 days since any updates. In typical fashion, not a lot has changed and our release window is getting pushed back again. With any luck, we will get this thing done before The Elder Scrolls VI comes out.

That being said, the new tentative release window is mid-September.

The reason for this post is mostly to poke my head up but also to confirm that I am eyeing a Release Candidate #2 drop in the coming days. Last I spoke, it was mostly life outside of IGEO DX that was bringing development to a grinding halt. Having to move (thankfully, right upstairs) but also starting a new job in October of last year pretty much sucked all my time away from the game.

In what time I did have, I have addressed some bugs, added some small QoL bits, and solved an animation issue that has been plaguing the game for almost a whole year. Nothing groundbreaking, but they definitely get us closer to a full-blown beta release.

Speaking of which, what will the "full-blown" beta include? Here are my plans:

  • New levels
  • Level tutorials will feature your set keybinds instead of the defaults
  • More graphical polish (animations, visual effects, UI clean up)
  • New visual & performance settings
  • Master Volume setting
  • Movement Undo bug fixes

Once the game gets to this point I will have a much clearer indication of whether we can commit to a soft launch on Itch before September. The bulk of the work after this stage largely resides in implementing the game's Steam integrations and adding more levels to pad out the original alpha and beta ones.

I'm also going to have to strongly rally the marketing efforts moving forward. There is a lot of disconnect between Itch, Steam, the official site, and our social media platforms that I'm sure has caused a lot of confusion as to what the game is and when (if ever) it is going to release.

Lastly, I want to give a huge shout to all the folks who donated to Itch's Ukrainian Aid bundle! Your help will definitely make an impact as it did with the Racial Justice bundle and Palestinian Aid bundles. Super honored to have the original IGEO be a part of making a difference in this fucked up war in Ukraine.

Keep it posted towards the end of the week/beginning of next week for Release Candidate #2. I will likely be participating in Ludum Dare #50 this weekend, too - so we'll see what kind of hamper that will put on getting builds uploaded.

Until next time!
